Be Heard for Real Writers Circle, Brighton

There’s something magical that happens when a circle of writers gathers to exchange encouragement, insights, and ideas in the spirit of companionship and bettering our craft. This event on Being Heard: giving and getting feedback, was electric.

I set the scene by getting writers to engage with what they seek from feedback, and what is helpful and unhelpful. I described my technique for giving useful, inspiring feedback with two simple questions.

Four brave writers then read pieces and had the chance to ask for the feedback they needed and they received feedback both immediately in the room and in the form of notecards from everyone else.

The result? From Chloe, one of the readers, "This was great, so encouraging. I felt supported in the room and when I got the cards, with both my writer strengths, and suggestions, it was like all my birthdays had come together. Thank you!"
