Still buzzing after launch of my debut novel Broken Madonna! Interview by Beth Miller, great audience q&a and screening of Cinema Paradiso at Duke of Yorks, Brighton.
Like Broken Madonna, the iconic film (my all-time favourite) is set in post-war Italy and the audience shared in the laughter and tears. If I have captured some of the magic of the film with the depth of emotion in the relationships and the atmosphere of what Italy was like then, I am a happy writer indeed.
We talked female friendship, female empowerment in the Catholic Church, stolen motherhood, longing for hope after the trauma of war, miracles, Italian immigration to the UK, my inspiration and Italian background and much more.
As an avid cinema fan, it is my dream for Broken Madonna to reach the big screen - I'm putting it out there! When asked about who I would cast in the main roles, it gave me the chance to wax lyrical about the characters and mention a certain British director who I would like to be at the helm...
